Q1. With LogiTerm, can I use terminology records created with other software packages?
For LogiTerm to be able to use them, your records must be in one or more text documents, for example in “text only” or Word documents. . If your records are currently in a database (Access, FileMaker, Excel etc.), you will have to export them to a “tab-delimited text only” file (.txt). If your records are in a MS Word table, you will need to convert the table into text (tab-delimited) and save it in plain text format (.txt).
You can then convert them to the format shown below, either using the features of your word processing software or by using the conversion tool built into LogiTerm.
[ENG] English term
[FRA] French term
[...] Other language
[DOM] Domain(s)
[SOU] Source
…
[~]
However, even without any special preparation, any terminology document in text format, PDF, Excel, etc. can be indexed in the Full Text database, and you can then use LogiTerm to search through it.
Q2. What is the difference between XML and HTML bitexts?
XML bitexts are visually more pleasing than the HTML bitexts but the latter offer a better compatibility outside LogiTerm. For example, many LogiTerm users open HTML bitexts in MS Word to proofread their translations, which is something XML bitexts wouldn’t allow to do. Also, if you want to send bitexts to external collaborators, the HTML format insures that the bitexts will be displayed correctly in any web browser, which is not always the case with XML bitexts.
Q3. What languages can our software handle?
All of our software support all languages.
Q4. I already have SDL Trados Studio. Of what use will LogiTerm be to me?
On top of being able to search your terminology records and bitexts, LogiTerm allows you to search your unilingual archives, which is rare feature among traditional translation memory tools. Moreover, LogiTerm only creates files in MS Word, HTML, XML and RTF formats, which allows for more flexibility regarding file exchange among different collaborators.
